As cool as it looks watching your macro manipulate the screen, you can help it run faster if you turn off Screen Updating. Popular Excel Tutorials. Dec 27, 2011 Hi. Excel: Stop Screen Flicker in Excel While Running Excel VBA Macro Code Lot's of free. Got any Excel Questions? Stop Screen Flicker In Excel While Running Excel VBA Macro Code. See Also: If you record Excel macros, as apposed to writing them, you will often wish to stop the screen flicker caused by your macro selecting cells and Worksheets. Even inexperienced VBA coders, that write their own code, often and up with the same problem due to their code being full of Select, Selection, Activate etc. Not only is it off-putting for the end user but it also causes macros to run much slower. Stop Excel Screen Flicker The long term aim should be to write better and more efficient code however, that is not always possible. The other option is to use a simple line of code like: Application.ScreenUpdating=False This will stop Excel having to repaint the screen each time the macro does something. To see the huge improvement that can be obtained, run the 2 macros below via Tools> Macro> Macros. Sub SlowWithFlicker() Dim rCell As Range For Each rCell In Range('A1:A15000') rCell.Select Next rCell End Sub Sub FastWithNoFlicker() Dim rCell As Range Application.ScreenUpdating = False For Each rCell In Range('A1:A15000') rCell.Select Next rCell Application.ScreenUpdating = True End Sub. By VBA for Excel 2016 is fast, but it’s not always fast enough. (Computer programs are never fast enough.) Keep reading to discover some programming examples you can use to speed up your macros. Turning off screen updating When executing a macro, you can sit back and watch all the onscreen action that occurs in the macro. Although doing this can be instructive, after you get the macro working properly, it’s often annoying and can slow the performance of your macro considerably. Fortunately, you can disable the screen updating that normally occurs when you execute a macro. You can instruct Excel to not display these types of alerts while running a macro. The secret trick to avoiding these alert messages is inserting the following VBA statement into your macro: Application.DisplayAlerts = False Excel executes the default operation for these types of messages. In the case of deleting a sheet, the default operation is Delete. If you’re not sure what the default operation is, perform a test to see what happens. When the procedure ends, Excel automatically resets the DisplayAlerts property to True. If you need to turn the alerts back on before the procedure ends, use this statement. Application.DisplayAlerts = True Simplifying object references As you probably already know, references to objects can become very lengthy. For example, a fully qualified reference to a Range object may look like this: Workbooks(“MyBook.xlsx”).Worksheets(“Sheet1”) _.Range(“InterestRate”) If your macro frequently uses this range, you may want to create an object variable by using the Set command. For example, the following statement assigns this Range object to an object variable named Rate: Set Rate = Workbooks(“MyBook.xlsx”) _.Worksheets(“Sheet1”).Range(“InterestRate”) After defining this object variable, you can use the variable Rate rather than the lengthy reference. For example, you can change the value of the cell named InterestRate: Rate.Value =.085 This is much easier to type than the following statement: Workbooks(“MyBook.xlsx”).Worksheets(“Sheet1”). _ Range(“InterestRate”) =.085 In addition to simplifying your coding, using object variables speeds your macros considerably. Declaring variable types You usually don’t have to worry about the type of data you assign to a variable.

Keep in mind when dealing with PHP & MySQL that sending a null-terminated string to a MySQL query can be misleading if you use echo($sql) in PHP because the null terminator may not be visible. So now you know!:). Dunno if is it a bug but when you are working with replications servers and work with multiple databases queries if you don't select the database it will only insert, update, delete into the master and bypass the slave, I think it its because it doesn't insert the sql on the binary log so the work around its to just call mysql_select_db MYSQL: 5.0.51a-log PHP: 5.2.6 Example. For those of you whom spent hours bashing your brains against the keyboard wondering why your non-English characters are output as question marks. Try the following: Simply run the query 'set names 'utf8' ' against the MySQL DB and your output should appear correct. One way to reduce the dangers of queries like the dlete command above that dletes the whole DB is to use limits wherever possible. If you have a routine that is only deisnged to delete 1 record, add 'LIMIT 1' to the end of the command. This way you'll only lose one record if someone does something stupid. You should also check all input, especially if it is sent using GET. Make sure that $_GET['id'] is not NULL or == ', is a number that is positive, not 0 (generally, I know this doesn't apply to some table types, but it applies to the default) and is within the valid range for that field. We definitely could not enjoy sitting on our balcony in the evenings or before bed. Although I didn't notice them during the daylight hours. We used 25% deet repellent in the evenings. Definitely pack enough repellent and an after bite stick. I also carried Off Deep Woods towelettes. We did ask for the resort to spray our room each evening at turndown. Supposedly our resort did spray the common areas as well and my husband thought he could tell by the smell in the evenings that they had sprayed. I just returned from St Lucia a week ago. Be informed about your illness. Don’t relinquish your opportunity to find out exactly what is wrong with you. This doesn’t mean you should challenge your doctor. I live in South Florida (halfway between Miami and Ft. The day after I returned from St Lucia, I went to visit my brother. He lives 1-1/2 miles from me. I will admit he lives on 1-1/2 acres (with a canal running down the back side of his property). Even so, I thought it was rather amusing when I sat in his front yard for about 10 minutes, turned to him and said 'I spent 4 days on the edge of a rain forest and had to come home to get bit my a mosquito'. Don't cheat yourself out of a wonderful stay on this beautiful island. Go, explore, and enjoy!! Since I'm on island now and have been for a while I can tell you a lot about this illness as we have been looking it as much as possible. First off I wouldn't cancel a trip because of it, especially if you are healthy. If you have any type of significant chronic auto immune problem I'd be really, really careful. In general the best thing to do is cover up as much as you can (especially later in the day or after a big rain), use a good, natural essential oils spray--that way you can put it on a lot without ill effects, and use netting at night. Currently, the amount of mosquitos (and other bugs) have been fairly low, especially in the south, but that can change at any time. I can tell you that this illness is really nasty. It effects everyone a little differently but so many of the symptoms are similiar from person to person. The way it hits a person infected it reminds me of a neurological illness like MS. It appears to be way, way under reported. We've met well over 50 local people that have had it, some getting it while we've been here. Note Check out the for an introduction to restoring data on the same server for TFS. SharePoint integration with TFS is deprecated after TFS 2017. Prerequisites To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the following groups or have the following permissions: • A member of the Administrators security group on the server or servers that are running the administration console for Team Foundation. • Either a member of the SQL Server System Administrator security group or your SQL Server Perform Back Up and Create Maintenance Plan permission must be set to Allow on the instance of SQL Server that hosts the databases. • A member of the sysadmin security group for the database instance for Team Foundation and for the Analysis Services instance of the warehouse database. • An authorized user of the TFS_Warehouse database. Jul 09, 2006 I think that my next few posts will be about the Team Foundation Server Data Warehouse, so I wanted to do a post about how to update this warehouse. When used in an extensible scenario, these alerts can be sent to a web service, triggering actions to alter or update work items (such as implementing advanced business rules or generating work items programmatically based on a given scenario). The data warehouse can also be extended through the creation of custom. Mar 18, 2011 - By default, TFS will process it's Data Warehouse and Analysis Services Cube (and thus update the data for the reports) every 2 hours. You can change the default frequency or manually invoke cube processing, if needed. Be careful with changing it to lower values than every hour: Important. If you reduce. Team Foundation Server 2015 Update 4 Release Notes. Work item tracking warehouse sync fails with a name conflict when field names only differ by a space replacing. TFS Warehouse is not updating. Furthermore, before one week I change the system date to 1/1/2055 and update the TFS warehouse on demand. • A member of the TFSEXECROLE database role. • If the deployment uses SharePoint Products, a member of the Farm Administrators group for the farm to which the SharePoint Products databases are being restored. For more information, see the following page on the Microsoft website:. Step 1: Stop services that TFS uses Stopping the services helps protect against data loss or corruption during the restoration process, particularly if you rename databases. • On the server that is running the application-tier services for Team Foundation, open a Command Prompt window, and change directories to Drive:%programfiles% TFS 12.0 Tools. • Type the following command: TFSServiceControl quiesce For more information, see. Step 2: Rename Databases that You Want to Restore Before you can use the Restore wizard to restore a database that Team Foundation Server, you must first take it offline, and then rename it. To stop databases that Team Foundation Server uses • Open SQL Server Management Studio. Note: For more information about how to restore databases, see the following page on the Microsoft website:. The Connect to Server dialog box opens. • In Server type, choose Database Engine. • In Server name, choose or type the name of the data-tier server and database instance, and then choose Connect. Note: If SQL Server is installed on a cluster, the server name is the name of the cluster and not the computer name. SQL Server Management Studio opens. • Expand the Databases node to show the list of databases that make up the data tier for Team Foundation. • Rename and then stop each database you want to restore, following. Give the database a name that indicates it is the old version of the database you will replace with the restored version. For example, you might rename TFS_DefaultCollection to TFS_DefaultCollection_Old. Step 3: Restore Team Foundation Databases You can restore data for Team Foundation Server by using the Restore wizard in the administration console in TFS. The Restore wizard also restores the encryption key used for reporting. To restore databases • Open the administration console for TFS and navigate to Scheduled Backups to start the Restore wizard. • Specify the path to the backup set and choose the set you want to use for restoration. • Complete the wizard and restore the databases. Step 4: Update All Service Accounts You must update the service account for Team Foundation Server (TFSService) and the data sources account (TFSReports). Even if these accounts have not changed, you must update the information to ensure that the identity and the format of the accounts are appropriate. To update service accounts • On the server that is running SQL Server Reporting Services, open Computer Management, and start the following components if they are not already started: • ReportServer or ReportServer$ InstanceName (application pool) • SQL Server Reporting Services ( TFSINSTANCE) • On the application-tier server, open a Command Prompt window, and change directories to Drive:%programfiles% TFS 12.0 Tools. • At the command prompt, enter the following command to add the service account for Team Foundation, where DatabaseName is the name of the configuration database (by default, TFS_Configuration): TfsConfig Accounts /add /AccountType:ApplicationTier /account: AccountName For more information about how to use this command, see. • Use the Accounts command to add the data sources account for the report server and the proxy account for Team Foundation Server Proxy, if your deployment uses these resources. Step 5: Rebuild the Warehouse You can rebuild the data warehouse instead of restoring the TFS_Warehouse and TFS_Analysis databases. I’ve configured my Outlook.com account in Outlook 2013 as an Exchange Active Sync (EAS) account. You can also instruct Outlook to update the inbox when off-line by selecting the same. Apr 22, 2011 With the Hotmail Inbox folder selected in Outlook I use the 'Send / Receive' tab, 'Update Folder' button with the expectation that it should then display the newly arrived messages. The 'Update Folder' button does not appear to perform any operation. There is no feedback from the user interface and the Inbox remains. This is achieved by creating a session which holds an idle connection to the server for a specific interval, also known as a heartbeat. Unfortunately, under some circumstances this heartbeat may stop. Luckily, it is quite easy to revive it as well. Heartbeats and timeouts Due to network idle connection timeouts, usually configured on firewalls, this heartbeat and thus the active session with the server could be closed prematurely. In that case, the following happens: • Outlook is unaware of this disconnect as it doesn’t expect a response back from the server until a new message arrives or when the heartbeat interval expires.• The server thinks the client is offline and will not attempt to push these emails to the client until the client reconnects by itself (Outlook does this by default every 59 minutes). Pushduration Registry value If you are in an environment where the Direct Push session gets terminated prematurely by the firewall, you can configure Outlook to create a session with a shorter heartbeat interval by modifying the “pushduration” key value. Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Microsoft Office 15.0 Outlook EAS Value name: pushduration Value type: REG_DWORD Value: The best value for this key name is 1 minute shorter than the session time-out configured on the firewall (which explains the 59 minute default as 60 minutes is a common session time-out value on a firewall and an even longer heartbeat interval wouldn’t make much sense anyway). Note: You can contact your network administrator to find out this value rather than by going by trial and error as indicated below. Set the Base to Decimal to see the time in minutes. Trial and error A good trial and error method is decreasing the value with 5 minutes each time until you will no longer experience any disconnects. Make sure you restart Outlook after changing the value. Another method is to set it to 29 minutes (as 30 minutes is another common time-out value) and if you don’t experience any disconnects then, increase the value with 5 minutes each time until you will no longer experience any disconnects. Don’t set it too low! A requirement arises in many systems to update multiple SQL database rows. For small numbers of rows requiring updates, it can be adequate to use an UPDATE statement. There may be instances where one wants to update a field value for a large, select group of records. Doing this one record at a time is a killer on productivity. Create DML Triggers to Handle Multiple Rows of Data • • 3 minutes to read • Contributors • • In this article THIS TOPIC APPLIES TO: SQL Server (starting with 2008) Azure SQL Database Azure SQL Data Warehouse Parallel Data Warehouse When you write the code for a DML trigger, consider that the statement that causes the trigger to fire can be a single statement that affects multiple rows of data, instead of a single row. This behavior is common for UPDATE and DELETE triggers because these statements frequently affect multiple rows. The behavior is less common for INSERT triggers because the basic INSERT statement adds only a single row. However, because an INSERT trigger can be fired by an INSERT INTO ( table_name) SELECT statement, the insertion of many rows may cause a single trigger invocation. Multirow considerations are especially important when the function of a DML trigger is to automatically recalculate summary values from one table and store the results in another for ongoing tallies. Note We do not recommend using cursors in triggers because they could potentially reduce performance. To design a trigger that affects multiple rows, use rowset-based logic instead of cursors. Examples The DML triggers in the following examples are designed to store a running total of a column in another table of the AdventureWorks2012 sample database. Storing a running total for a single-row insert The first version of the DML trigger works well for a single-row insert when a row of data is loaded into the PurchaseOrderDetail table. An INSERT statement fires the DML trigger, and the new row is loaded into the inserted table for the duration of the trigger execution. The UPDATE statement reads the LineTotal column value for the row and adds that value to the existing value in the SubTotal column in the PurchaseOrderHeader table. The WHERE clause makes sure that the updated row in the PurchaseOrderDetail table matches the PurchaseOrderID of the row in the inserted table. -- Trigger is valid for single-row inserts. USE AdventureWorks2012; GO CREATE TRIGGER NewPODetail ON Purchasing.PurchaseOrderDetail AFTER INSERT AS UPDATE PurchaseOrderHeader SET SubTotal = SubTotal + LineTotal FROM inserted WHERE PurchaseOrderHeader.PurchaseOrderID = inserted.PurchaseOrderID; B. Storing a running total for a multirow or single-row insert For a multirow insert, the DML trigger in example A might not operate correctly; the expression to the right of an assignment expression in an UPDATE statement ( SubTotal + LineTotal) can be only a single value, not a list of values. Therefore, the effect of the trigger is to retrieve a value from any single row in the inserted table and add that value to the existing SubTotal value in the PurchaseOrderHeader table for a specific PurchaseOrderID value. This operation might not have the expected effect if a single PurchaseOrderID value occurred more than one time in the inserted table. To correctly update the PurchaseOrderHeader table, the trigger must allow for the chance of multiple rows in the inserted table. You can do this by using the SUM function that calculates the total LineTotal for a group of rows in the inserted table for each PurchaseOrderID. The SUM function is included in a correlated subquery (the SELECT statement in parentheses). This subquery returns a single value for each PurchaseOrderID in the inserted table that matches or is correlated with a PurchaseOrderID in the PurchaseOrderHeader table. -- Trigger is valid for multirow and single-row inserts. That's the good news. But the flood is still coming. It has merely been postponed. Bismarck-Mandan has just been granted a little extra time to prepare. The bad news is that there was more heavy rain in Montana in the past few days and the Corps of Engineers will up the cfs release level to 100,000 by the end of today and will be releasing 150,000 cfs by mid-June. Remember just a few days ago when I said that 105,000 cfs was an astronomical number? A storm system stretching from Texas to the Great Lakes states with risks of flooding. KFYR-TV 5 200 N. Bismarck, ND 58501. And, for the first time ever, the spillway gates will be opened at Garrison Dam. The Army Corps of Engineers hastened to say that this does not mean that they have lost control of the river; they still maintained that this is a planned, controlled release. City officials are confident that they can keep the water away, not only from homes but from the city water treatment plant, fire departments and other places essential to maintaining the infrastructure. But for states officials, the problem is being compounded by the fact that they have to lend a hand to another flooded ND city. Minot, 90 miles to our north, is being flooded by a different river, the Souris (or Mouse). About 10,000 people have already been ordered to evacuate. So far, evacuations in Bismarck are voluntary.
